'For conspicuous gallantry and dash whilst leading his platoon against an enemy position. In face of heavy machine gun fire and bombing he successfully gained his objective. Later he beat off two counter attacks and killed several of the enemy. He also organized and led parties against enemy posts which were harassing his platoon and holding up the platoon on his flank. He set a fine example of courage and determination.'
