Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and initiative on night of 3rd/4th March, 1918 during raid on enemy trenches in vicinity of WARNETON. This N.C.O. was a member of a communication trench storming party, and led his men with great dash, clearing the trench and personally killing three enemy. He climbed the parapet alone and bombed a group of the enemy holding up one of our parties succeeding in dispersing them. He also carried a wounded mate back to our trenches. During the whole action he exhibited the greatest bravery. and was a fine example to his men.'
