Embarked Sydney, 11 November 1916, as Voyage Only Corporal; disembarked Devonport, England, 30 January 1917, and reverted to Private, and marched in to 5th Training Bn, Rollestone.

Proceeded overseas to France, 25 April 1917; joined 20th Bn, in the field, 2 May 1917.

Admitted to Field Ambulance, 14 May 1917, and transferred same day to 9th Casualty Clearing Station (venereal disease: gonorrhea), 17 June 1917; to Ambulance Train No 29, 15 June 1917, and admitted to 39th General Hospital, Havre, 17 June 1917; discharged, 24 September 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 103 days.

Marched in to 2nd Australian Division Base Depot, Havre, 24 September 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 26 December 1917.

On leave to England, 3 February 1918; rejoined Bn from leave, 19 February 1918.

Wounded in action, 7 April 1918 (gun shot wound, left side), and admitted to 7th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred to 46th Casualty Clearing Station; to 3rd Australian General Hospital, Abbeville, 7 April 1918; to Ambulance Train No 14, 10 April 1918; to England, 10 April 1918, and admitted to Emergency Hospital, Ilford (affiliated to General Military Hospital, Colchester) (wound: slight); transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 31 May 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Karoola', 23 July 1918; disembarked Melbourne for onward travel to Sydney; discharged (medically unfit: wound, left side of abdomen), Sydney, 1 March 1919.
