War service: Middle East Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal The Historical Society/Museum on King Island, Tasmania, holds a picture of a young soldier from the First World War with the following inscription: 'A Message From the Sea: Mr Albert E. Jackson of King Island, Tasmania, picked up a bottle of the west side of King Island eight miles south of Cape Wickham Lighthouse containing the following message from Tpr Jimmy Dillon of the Casino Light Horse which he forwarded to Mrs Dillon - "Oct 6th 1915 on HMS Mashobra on way to the war kindly address Jim Dillon, Casino R River NSW - All well cannot write".' Mr Jackson forwarded the letter to Casino, and as thanks Mr and Mrs Dillon sent a photograph of Jim and a photograph of their own wedding to Mr Jackson. |
