DFC 'This Oficer has displayed conspicuous bravery in carrying out contact patrols, notably on 16th September, when, in face of intense anti-aircraft and machine gun fire, he flew over the line at a height of 800 feet, accurately pin-pointing the line until his observer was killed. He then returned to his aerodrome and rendered a valuable report of the situation.'
