Medals |
Military Medal 'For conspicuous devotion to duty and gallantry under fire at WESTHOEK on 17th October, 1917. Driver DIXON was employed as driver of one wagon of a convoy of 30 G.S. from this Train conveying beech sleepers for road construction form HELLFIRE CORNER to WESTHOEK. Hostile shelling on the road this day was particularly heavy and consistent, blowing up the timber road on several occasions causing much traffic congestion. One shell killed both Dixon's horses and destroyed his wagon but he with admirable pluck pulled himself together immediately and in spite of continued shelling set to work to clear the road of the debris to relieve the congestion. This completed he continued working hard assisting to get other bogged teams out of their difficulties, repairing the road etc. His pluck and consistent hard work under fire was not only invaluable to the officer in Charge but was the admiration of his comrades.'
