Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in command of a detached party, charged with reducing the last elements of enemy resistance in a village. He captured two machine guns, with the remainder of their detachments, and, co-operating with great skill with the centre party, he drove one officer and twelve men into their hands. He led his own party with much coolness and determination, and, though wounded, remained with his men till the village was cleared. He showed fine qualities of leadership, and his example inspired his men with great dash and confidence.'
