'For conspicuous bravery and inspiring example during operations at RIFLE FARM near WYTSCHAETE August 7 - 11 1917 as a runner in carrying messages through enemy shell fire. This soldier displayed wonderful endurance and courage and it was mainly by his efforts that communication with front line companies was maintained and Battalion Headquarters informed of movements. He is fearless and tireless.'
