Embarked Melbourne, 30 October 1917; disembarked Devonport, England, 27 December 1917. Marched in to Pioneer Training Bn, Sutton Veny, 27 December 1917. transferred to 32nd Bn Details, 2 January 1918.

Proceeded overseas to France, 2 April 1918; taken on strength, 48th Bn, 6 April 1918.

Wounded in action, 3 May 1918 (gun shot wound, right thigh), and admitted to 12th Australian Field Ambulance; transferred to 8th General Hospital, Rouen, 8 May 1918 (seriously ill); to England, 27 July 1918, and admitted to Military Orthopaedic Hospital, Duncan Road, Shepherd's Bush, London, 28 July 1918. Transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 2 December 1918; discharged on furlough, 7 December 1918, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 21 December 1918. Found guilty, 24 December 1918, of being absent without leave from 10.30 am, 21 December, to 1.30 pm, 23 December 1918: forfeited 3 days' pay.

Commenced return to Australia on board 'Czaritza', 16 March 1919; transhipped to 'Dunluce Castle' at Alexandria, 7 April 1919; disembarked Western Australia, 6 May 1919; discharged, 7 September 1919.
