Military Medal 'On the 4th July, 1918, during the attack on the enemy trenches in the vicinity of HAMEL, this N.C.O. displayed great bravery and initiative. On his Platoon Commander becoming a casualty he immediately assumed command of the Platoon and led them throughout the advance. On reaching the final objective he reorganised his Platoon and successfully consolidated his position which he maintained throughout the operation. By his immediate action in taking charge of the Platoon he saved a critical situation. He set an excellent example of bravery and devotion to duty during the whole operation.'
