War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 11 May 1917; disembarked Plymouth, England, 20 July 1917; marched into Reserve Brigade Australian Artillery, Larkhill, 21 July 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 6 November 1917; taken on strength, 2nd Field Artillery Brigade, in the field, Belgium, 12 November 1917, and posted to 102nd Battery. On leave to Paris, 19 February 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 1 March 1918. On leave to United Kingdom, 5 November 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 22 November 1918. Marched out to England, 9 April 1919. Granted leave with pay, subs and fees (£10) (Non-Military Employment), 23 April-23 July 1919, to attend Tailor & Cutters Academy, 42 Gerrard Street, Shaftesbury Avenue, London; period of leave extended to 23 August 1918 (additional fees £2.7.3); final report: 'Gnr Dorn made good progress on a course of Ladies and Gentlemens cutting.
