Military Medal

'At CHUIGNES, France on 23rd August, 1918, for conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty in an attack and whilst waiting with his Company for our Artillery barrage to lift, he saw a party of Germans moving from a Trench to the rear. Without hesitation he called to his men to follow, rushed forward through our own barrage, and captured fifteen of the enemy single handed. His initiative on this and later occasions was most marked. His energy and good leadership is beyond praise.'
