'On the night of 8th November, 1917, Private DOUGLAS near WESTHOEK east of YPRES, carried four wounded men from the Plank Road to the nearest pill-box. The pill-box was found to be full of wounded and Private DOUGLAS remained in the open with the wounded men and dressed their wounds under fire, afterwards assisting to carry them to the next relay post. This action was performed whilst exposed to very heavy fire of H.E. and gas shells, and is considered worth of special recogniation.'
