Admitted to 14th Australian Field Ambulance, 24 February 1917 (burnt right hand: accidental), and transferred same day to 5th Divisional Rest Station; to 3rd Australian Casualty Clearing Station, 6 March 1917; to Ambulance Train No 11, 7 March 1917, and admitted to 3rd Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 8 March 1917. Transferred to No 2 convalescent Depot, 28 March 1917; to Base Depot, 2 April 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 19 April 1917.

On leave to England, 18 July 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 31 July 1917.

Detached for duty to 4th Australian Light Rail Operating Company, Coxyde, 31 July 1917; rejoined unit, 7 August 1917.

Wounded in action, 5 November 1917 (gun shot wound, left arm), and admitted to 3rd Field Ambulance; transferred to 2nd Canadian Casualty Clearing Station, 5 November 1917, and transferred same day, via Ambulance Train No 10, to 54th General Hospital; to England, 8 November 1917, and admitted same day to Central Military Hospital, Fort Pitt, Chatham, Kent. Transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 28 December 1917; discharged on furlough, 29 December 1917, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 12 January 1918.

Marched into Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 15 January 1918.

Proceeded overseas to France, 11 February 1918; rejoined unit, in the field, 17 February 1918.

Found guilty, 5 March 1918, of when on Active Service neglect to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that he failed to satisfy himself that [the] line was not obstructed, resulting in damage to tractor: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Admitted to 2/1 North midland field Ambulance, 23 September 1918 (pyrexia unknown origin); transferred to 89th Field Ambulance, 23 September 1918; to 1/6th London Field Ambulance, 3 October 1918; to 39th Stationary Hospital, 3 October 1918; to 10th Canadian Stationary Hospital, Calais, 5 October 1918; to No 1 Australian General Hospital, Calais, 5 October 1918 (ulcer, mouth); to Base Depot, 29 October 1918; rejoined unit, in the field, 4 November 1918.

On leave to England, 31 December 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 17 January 1919.

Marched out to England for return to Australia, 17 March 1919.

Absent without leave, 4 April 1919; rejoined unit , 8 April 1919; awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 11 days' pay.

Granted leave with pay and subsistence and fees of £10.0.0, 23 April to 23 July 1919: Non-Military Employment, motor trade (driving and running repairs) with J.B. Tyler, 218 Coldharbour Lane, Brixton.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Euripides', 3 September 1919; disembarked Sydney, 24 October 1919; discharged, Brisbane, 17 December 1919.
