War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Sydney on HMAT 'Port Lincoln', 13 October 1915. Allotted to 45th Battalion, Zeitoun, 6 March 1916. Embarked Alexandria on HT 'Kinsfaunscastle' and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 2 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 8 June 1916; granted leave to United Kingdom, 30 January 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 15 February 1917. Wounded in action, and admitted to 12th Australian Field Ambulance, 28 March 1918 (gun shot wound, right hand); transferred to 4th General Hospital, 30 March 1918; discharged to Medical Board Depot, 4 April 1918; marched into Australin Infantry Base Depot, Havre, 8 April 1918; assessed by Medical Board as debility E, 20 April 1918. Commenced return to Australia on HT 'Gaika', 12 May 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 5 July 1918, for onward travel to Sydney. Discharged as being medically unfit for service, Sydney, 23 August 1918.
