Admitted to 15th Field Ambulance, 2 December 1916 (trench feet); transferred to England, 6 December 1916; admitted to 8th Southern General Hospital, Bristol, England, 7 December 1916; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 20 December 1916; discharged from hospital and marched in to Weymouth Command Depot, 29 January 1917.

Marched out to Hurdcott Command Depot, 28 April 1917; classified 'C1', 15 June 1917; classified 'PB', 14 August 1917; attached to Pay Corps for duty at Pay Office, Tidworth, 24 January 1918; promoted to ER/2/Corporal at Australian Imperial Force Depots in United Kingdom, 10 May 1918; marched in to Sutton Veny Command Depot, 11 September 1918; promoted to T/Sergeant, 20 December 1918; promoted to ER/Sergeant, Tidworth, 1 May 1919; marched in to Deverill, 24 July 1919; eligible for 15 days' extra disembarkation leave, 31 July 1919 to 30 September 1919; at Pay Office, Sutton Veny, 31 August 1919 to 12 January 1920.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Friedrichsruh', 22 January 1920; disembarked Melbourne, 9 March 1920; discharged, 9 June 1920.
