Extract from letter written by mother: In the whole course of my life, I never met anyone who so nearly reached the highest ideals of a Christian life. He lived a ? and was a splendid example to us all. Always ready to do more than his duty, never complaining when pribation and ? fell to our lot self sacrificing in the ? In the end hemade the great sacrifice which the war has entailed upon so many brave men like him. I am cetain that his stedfast nature fellows have to suffer so terribly before death mercifully came to their rescue. Perhaps he was spared that because he was so fully prepared. His loss to me personally is that of a very dear friend. I miss him every day and I know that the others do also for his name is so often on their lips."
