War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 11 May 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 10 July 1916. Marched in to Reserve Brigade, Australian Artillery, Larkhill, 10 January 1917. Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 13 January 1917; discharged, 21 February 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 40 days. Found guilty, Larkhill, 12 March 1917, of (1) breaking out of Camp about 6.30 am, 28 February; (2) being absent without leave from 6.30 am, 28 February, till 9 pm, 10 March 1917; (3) being out of bounds: awarded 11 days' detention, and forfeited 23 days' pay. Proceeded overseas to France, 15 March 1917; taken on strength, 3rd Field Artillery Brigade, 6 May 1917. On leave to England, 12 November 1917; rejoined unit,in the field, 18 November 1917.
