Distinguished Conduct Medal

'On 13 September, 1918, south of Jeancourt, during minor operations against an enemy post, he showed marked courage and initiative. When his platoon came under heavy machine gun fire on nearing their objective, he rushed forward, firing his Lewis gun from the hip, thus neutralizing the enemy's fire. His platoon then came forward and bombed the post, and the remainder of the garrison - one machine gun and eight prisoners - were taken. He did fine work.'
