War service: Egypt, Gallipoli Promoted Lieutenant, Gallipoli, 1 May 1915. Tken on strength, 6th Light Horse Regiment, Anzac Cove, Gallipoli, 13 July 1915, and posted to B Squadron. Wounded in action, 20 September 1915 (gun shot wound, left leg, fractured tibia and fibula: severe), and transferred same day to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station, and then to HS 'Guildford Castle'; transferred to 17th General Hospital, Alexandria, 26 September 1915; to England, 16 November 1915, and admitted to 3rd London General Hospital, Wandsworth, 27 November 1915. Commenced return to Australia from Portland on board HT 'Ascanius', 17 March 1916; appointment terminated (discharged: gun shot wound, ankle), 14 November 1916. Re-embarked with Special Service.
