Military Medal 'During the recent operations beyond MESSINES on the night of the 11th/12th June 1917 this Non Commissioned Officer displayed the most conspicuous bravery whilst in charge of patrols reconnoitring the sniper-infested country beyond the GREEN LINE. By his audacity and skill he obtained most valuable information. Later he was in charge of an isolated Advance Post in DELPORTE FARM which for 24 hours had no support on its Flanks but the coolness, ability and great devotion to duty displayed by this Non Commissioned Officer was a fine example to his men and resulted in the complete consolidation of the Post under most trying and hazardous conditions.'
