Evacuated from Field Hospital, Gallipoli, 27 November 1915; transferred to HS 'Dangola', 1 December 1915; admitted to Greek Hospital, Alexandria, 5 December 1915. Discharged from hospital and taken on strength, Australian Overseas Base, 11 January 1916. Temporarily attached to 13th Bn.

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 7 May 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 14 May 1916. Transferred to 45th Bn, 20 May 1916. Promoted Acting Corporal, 17 November 1916; returned to permanent rank, 21 December 1916.

Wounded in action, 7 June 1917 (gun shot wound, buttock); transferred from Field Ambulance to 2nd Casualty Clearing Station. Transferred to England from Boulogne on board HS 'St Patrick', 10 June 1917; admitted to Reading War Hospital, Berkshire. Proceeded overseas to France, 25 August 1917.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 5 April 1918 (gun shot wound, left foot); admitted to 22nd General Hospital. Transferred to England on board HS 'Newhaven', 9 April 1918; admitted to 1st Eastern General Hospital, Cambridge, 10 April 1918. Taken on strength, Overseas Training Brigade, 23 September 1918; marched out to Rest Camp, Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, 7 December 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Burmah', 14 December 1918; discharged, 24 March 1919.
