Distinguished Service Order Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 57 Date: Bar to DSO 'St Montbrehain, on 5th October 1918, he having been ordered to attack with his battalion, carried out a careful reconnaissance under heavy shell fire of the routes leading to and the jumping off line for the attack. During the attack he set a fine example of zeal and energy to his command, with the result that the enemy position was taken, and held, although the enemy repreatedly attempted to break through and nullify the success.'
