'During the attack near MORLANCOURT on 19th instant an enemy machine gun near the Cross roads in K 13 b caused a number of casualties amongst our attacking troops. Lieutenant WOODRIFF, Private BRAIN and Private DUNKINSON made their way towards the gun. The officer was killed and Private BRAIN was wounded. DUNKINSON bombed the gun crew from the post but lost sight of them in the crop. He returned to his platoon and when the gun opened from a new position, he crawled out and silenced it with rifle grenades. On the previous day he did exceptionally fine work in a daylight raid on an enemy strong point in which 23 prisoners were captured.'
