Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. During severe fighting he was entirely responsible for the organization of ammunition and ration carrying parties, whom he himself conducted to the front line under heavy fire and in the face of great difficulties. He showed the greatest courage and disregard of danger in helping to recover the wounded during the battle, and at all times his fine example of unflagging devotion to duty has been of the utmost value to the battalion.'
