Military Medal Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 133 Date: Bar to Military Medal 'For most conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On 31st August at PERONNE he successfully maintained telephone communication under most intense shelling and Machine Gun fire. He organised linesmen to maintain the lines and personally assisted to repair them. On the following day under very heavy shell fire and though a badly gassed area he assisted to lay a line from Battalion Headquarters to the front line and was successful in obtaining and keeping communication. Throughout the operation he worked with untiring zeal and with an utter disregard of personal safety. The initiative, bravery, and devotion to duty of this N.C.O. has at all times been an inspiring example to his men.'
