'On the morning of 9/4/17 during the attack on HERMIES while moving up with a party of sappers to construct a strong point his officer was very badly wounded and he carried him under heavy shell fire to a place of safety. He afterwards returned and assisted other wounded to safety and then did splendid work on the construction of the strong point.'
