War service: Egypt Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HT 'Kyarra', 3 February 1915; discharged (disciplinary reasons), Melbourne, 11 March 1915. Report by OC, 10th Bn: 'This man is incorrigible; he has been in isolation suffering from venereal disease ever since we left Australia, his manner is most offensive - his language is filthy, he is a sickly looking fellow and will never make an efficient soldier.' Report by OC, A Company, 10th Bn: 'This man is an encumbrance in the Company, he has done no training or musketry, as he has been in Isolation on account of Venereal disease since leaving Fremantle & is recommended by Medical Board for discharge. He is guilty of having used indecent language to the C.O. & is awaiting trial by Court Martial for using indecent language to an officer. He boasted that if he were not discharged he would desert.'
