'At Villeret, on 18th September, 1918, his duty was to maintain the direction of the general advance. The work was extremely difficult, owing to the mist and fog and enemy artillery fire, but by his cool judgment and utter disregard for his personal safety he directed the advance successfully. On reaching the line of exploitation he personnally reconnoitred the whole front and brought back information of great value.'
