Wounded in action, 3 May 1915 (gun shot wound); rejoined unit, 16 May 1915. Appointed Commanding Officer, 14th Bn, 28 June 1915, with temporary rank of Lt Colonel. Admitted to Hamrun Military Hospital, Malta, 25 July 1915 (debility); reverted to rank of Major, 19 August 1915; rejoined unit at Gallipoli, 24 August 1915. Transferred to England, 29 August 1915 (chest and cardiac trouble).
