War service: Western Front Embarked Fremantle, 9 November 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 10 January 1917, and marched into 11th Training Bn, the same day. Admitted to Parkhouse Military Hospital, 4 March 1917 (mumps); discharged, 10 May 1917, and marched into 11th Training Bn the same day. Proceeded overseas to France, 16 July 1917; marched into 3rd Australian Divisional Base Depot, Le Havre, 17 July 1917. Evacuated to hospital, 24 July 1917; admitted to No 2 General Hospital, Le Havre, 24 July 1917 (sprained right knee); discharged, 10 August 1917, and marched into 3rd Australian Divisional Base Depot, Le Havre, the same day. Proceeded to unit, 24 August 1917; taken on strength of 44th Bn, in the field, 26 August 1917. Wounded in action, 4 October 1917, and admitted to No 44 Casualty Clearing Station the same day (shrapnel wound, left shoulder); to No 2 Canadian General Hospital, 5 October 1917; to No 3 Convalescent Depot, Boulogne, 12 October 1917; discharged, 17 October 1917; marched into 3rd Australian Divisional Base Depot, Rouelles, 18 October 1917.
