Military Medal 'While doing a tour of the front line, near SAILLY LAURETTE, with his Company from June 14th to June 20th 1918 Private ATKINSON displayed cheerfulness and devotion to duty in his capacity as company stretcher bearer. With Private CONLON "MM" he carried out between 10 and 12 stretcher cases from the front line, despite the intense machine-gun fire and heavy barrages from enemy artillery. Private ATKINSON'S work has been admired by the officers and men of the company and no corner was too hot for him to proceed to and render assistance to anyone requiring help. His actions throughout.
