War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 18 October 1915; taken on strength, 5th Bn, Lemnos, 3 November 1915. Disembarked Alexandria, 7 January 1916 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Transferred to, and taken on strength of, 57th Bn, 17 February 1916. Transferred to, and taken on strength of, 60th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 15 March 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916. Reported Missing, 19 July 1916. Court of Enquiry, held in the field, 4 August 1917, pronounced fate as 'Killed in Action, 19 July 1916'. Statement, 3554 Pte C. COLE, 60th Bn, 3 January 1917: 'On the evening of the 19th July, 1916, I was in action at Blue Bay, Armentieres, and after the action I saw the body of No. 2361 Private H.H. Edwards, 60th Battalion, amonghst many others prepared for burial. I heard that the burial took place on the 20th July 1916. I knew Private Edwards intimately and recognized him.' Statement, Red Cross File No 991004, 2766 Pte G.I. SFORCINA, A Company, 58th Bn (patient, 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, England), 21 February 1919: Edwards' name was posted on Battn records as Missing. I wrote to Miss Ethel Dunston, Sackville St, Collingwood to this effect. I got a letter from a friend of Miss Dunston's stating Miss Dunston had a letter from Edwards himself stating he was a prisoner in Germany. No name of place was given.'
