War service: Egypt, Gallipoli

Joined 3rd Light Horse at Gallipoli, 25 October 1915. Found guilty of sleeping at his post, 9 November 1915: awarded 3 months' Field Punishment No. 2 and forfeiture of 109 days' pay. Disembarked at Alexandria from Gallipoli, 20 December 1915.

Joined Western Frontier Force, 29 December 1915. Found guilty, 29 January 1916, of conduct prejudicial to good conduct and military discipline in that he answered an officer in an insolent manner: awarded 28 days' Field Punishment No. 2 and forfeiture of 28 days' pay.

Admitted to hospital (septic throat), 27 July 1916; rejoined unit, 3 August 1916. Detached for railway construction, 5-28 July and 27 August-9 October 1917. Admitted to hospital (neurasthenia), 3 November 1917; discharged from hospital, 26 November 1917.

Taken on strength, 1st Light Horse Regiment, 27 November 1917; transferred to 3rd Light Horse, 2 January 1918. Detached to School of Instruction, 14 September 1918; rejoined unit, 14 October 1918.

Commenced return to Australia, 15 May 1919; disembarked in Australia, 26 June 1919; discharged, 26 August 1919.
