Proceeded overseas to France, 4 June 1917; joined 20th Bn, in the field, 28 June 1917.

Admitted to 5th Field Ambulance, 27 June 1917 (appendicitis); transferred to 3rd Casualty Clearing Station, 28 August 1917; to Ambulance Train, 8 July 1917; to 5th General Hospital, Rouen, 9 July 1917; to England, 13 July 1917, and admitted to Military Hospital, Richmond, 14 July 1917; discharged on furlough, 20 August 1917, to report to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 3 September 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 10 November 1917; rejoined unit, in the field, 23 November 1917.

Wounded in action, 29 June 1918 (gun shot wound, left leg), admitted to 6th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to 47th Casualty Clearing Station; to Ambulance Train No 9, 30 June 1918, and transferred to 3rd Stationary Hospital, Rouen, 1 July 1918; to England, 2 July 1918, and admitted to 1st Southern General Hospital, Monyhull Section, 3 July 1918 (wound: severe). Discharged on furlough, 13 July 191, to report to No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 27 July 1918.

Marched out to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 15 August 1918.
