'On 4th October, 1917, at 7 p.m. in the neighbourhood of ZONNEBEKE showed conspicuous gallantry under fire. His unceasing efforts in getting wounded away from this forward post in spite of great fatigue and heavy shell fire undoubtedly saved many lives.'
