Medals |
Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations on 3rd May 1917 near BULLECOURT. They [9044 M.J. McAULIFFE, 1685 J ELLIOTT, 8429 J.V. PETTERSON, 9083 (Lt) P. TAYLOR] were each in charge of bearer squads which worked continuously from 4.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. without relief between Railway Embankment and Advanced Collecting Station C.10.c., being under heavy shell fire the whole time. In spite of numerous casualties amongst the bearers these men continued with their duties showing remarkable courage and endurance throughout their tour of duty. The example of coolness and pluck displayed by these men had a most inspiring effect upon the remainder of their parties, who, following their lead, exhibited great zeal in clearing the area of wounded men.'
