'During the operations West of BELENGLISE on 18th/19th September, 1918, he acted as C.S.M. He took charge of two platoons after the Officer had been killed. By his cool courage and fine leadership he carried the platoons forward to final objective, overcoming all enemy resistance. On reaching objective he at once commenced consolidating. His work all through was of the utmost value to his Company Commander and a great incentive to all the men of the Company.'
