'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on VILLE-SUR-ANCRE near ALBERT on the morning of 19th May, 1918. This man was a stretcher bearer and displayed great bravery and fearlessness in attending to the wounded. he carried badly wounded men through heavy shell fire to the R.A.P. and in spite of enemy snipers, thoroughly searched the ground in front of the advanced posts, in order to make certain that all wounded men had been carried in.'
