Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Whilst laying a guiding tape forward he discovered a strong enemy patrol and indicated to the garrison of the line, who counter attacked it successfully. While marking out a communication trench to the captured position he and another officer located an enemy machine gun post, and with a small party rushed it, capturing the garrison and two machine guns. He rendered very valuable service.'
