Meritorious Service Medal 'For devotion to duty. This N.C.O. has consistently shown himself to be a thoroughly conscientious and good worker in the capacity of Pioneer Sergeant. Through his personal efforts he has trained his section to a very high standard and their work is thus of inestimable value to the Battalion. In cases where the Battalion has suffered casualties his efforts have been untiring and regardless of personal safety he repeatedly supervises burials in the field under heavy enemy shell fire and under very adverse conditions.'
