War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne on HMAT 'Aeneas', 30 October 1917 and appointed Voyage Only Corporal whilst at sea; disembarked Devonport, 27 December 1917, and marched into 2nd Training Bn, Sutton Veny (rank reverted to Private upon disembarkation). Admitted to Military Hospital, Sutton Veny, 29 January 1918 (pleurisy); discharged to duty, 19 February 1918; marched into No 1 Command Depot, Sutton Veny, 20 February 1918; moved out to 1st Infantry Brigade, 26 February 1918; marched into 2nd Training Bn, Durrington, 7 February 1918. Proceeded overseas to France through Dover, 1 April 1918, and marched into 4th MB Base Depot, Calais; moved out to field, 4 April 1918; taken on strength of 51st Bn, 6 April 1918.
