Military Medal Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' No. 219 Date: Bar to Military Medal 'At ZONNEBEKE, on 26th September, 1917, he did valuable work in the vicinity of Battalion Headquarters, attending to a large number of wounded men of all units who were knocked out shortly after the attack commenced. The locality, on the "jumping off" line - was heavily shelled all day. Private AUGUST showed utter disregard of fire and was the means of saving many lives by his prompt dressing of wounds. He had work to do as a stretcher bearer in his own Company in addition.'
