War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Sydney on HMAT 'Euripides', 2 November 1915. Taken on strength of Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Maadi, 28 December 1915; moved out to Serapeum, 25 February 1915. Found guilty at Serapeum, 15 March 1916, of making a false declaration: awarded 14 days' Field Punishment No 2. Admitted to hospital, Hill 70, 29 August 1916; transferred to 3rd Australian General Hospital, Cairo, 9 September 1916 (appendicitis); to British Red Cross Convalescent Hospital, Montazah, 12 September 1918; to 17th General Hospital, Alexandria, 17 September 1916; discharged to duty, 29 September 1916; taken on strength of 2nd Light Horse Training Regiment, Moascar, 30 September 1916; rejoined 7th Light Horse Regiment, Hassaniya, 20 November 1916. To hospital ill, 9 June 1917; admitted to 2nd Light Horse Field Ambulance, Marakeb, 20 June 1917; discharged to unit, El Fara, 30 June 1917; on command to School of Instruction, 25 August 1917, and qualified 22nd Signals Course, 6 October 1917; rejoined unit, El Fukhari, 7 October 1917.
