'During the trying operations in the vicinity of BELLICOURT from the 29th September to the 2nd October, 1918, this N.C.O. repeatedly displayed such fine qualities of leadership and an utter disregard for personal safety, as to make his conduct throughout most admirable. His cool and gallant work under very heavy Artillery and machine gun fire set his comrades at all times a splendid example of bravery and devotion to duty.'
