'At PETILLON on the night of 19th/20th July, 1916, when communication had been severed by shell fire between the firing line and Brigade Headquarters, Lance Corporal SCHULDT and Lance Corporal EVERY ran out wire and succeeded in establishing communication under heavy shell and machine gun fire. The communication sap being constantly blown in, the wire had to be placed beside it in the open, considerably increasing the risk of laying.'
