Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British expeditionary Force, 21 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 29 June 1916. Wounded in action, 5 August 1916 (gun shot wound, left thigh and leg), and admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 30th General Hospital, Boulogne, 6 August 1916; to England, 11 August 1916, and admitted to 2nd Western General Hospital, Manchester, 13 August 1916. Discharged from hospital, 11 November 1916, and granted furlough to report to No. 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 21 November 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 21 December 1916.
