Disembarked Suez, 17 May 1916. Allotted to Reinforcements to 56th Bn, Tel el Kebir, 25 May 1916.

Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British expeditionary Force, 21 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 29 June 1916.

Wounded in action, 5 August 1916 (gun shot wound, left thigh and leg), and admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 30th General Hospital, Boulogne, 6 August 1916; to England, 11 August 1916, and admitted to 2nd Western General Hospital, Manchester, 13 August 1916. Discharged from hospital, 11 November 1916, and granted furlough to report to No. 1 Command Depot, Perham Downs, 21 November 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 21 December 1916.

Found guilty, 7 July 1917, of when on active service (1) drunk, 5 July 1917; (2) absent from parade: awarded forfeiture of 14 days pay.

Marched out to Reinforcements Camp for passage to England, 11 July 1917. Found guilty, 31 August 1917, of (1) when on active service, drunkenness; (2) in possession of spirits contrary to BSO: awarded 14 days confined to camp and forfeiture of 21 days pay. Marched out to England, 4 November 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Corinthic', 10 January 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 3 March 1918; transshipped on 'Port Darwin' to Sydney, 4 March 1918; discharged, 3 April 1918.
