Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Prior to a raid on the enemy's trenches he spent several nights reconnoitring "No Man's Land" and the enemy's wire at great personal risk. During the raid he showed great coolness, and the operation was successfully carried out with but few casualties, three prisoners being captured and a dozen of the enemy killed. The success of the enterprise was mainly due to his courage and resource.'
