Military Medal

'During the attack near MONT ST QUENTIN, North East of PERONNE, on 2nd September 1918, this man volunteered for and acted as a runner, carrying messages to the flanks and along the line. He repeatedly passed through heavy shell and machine gun fire doing this. On the capture of the objective, he went out alone, trying to gain touch with the Battalion on our flank, having to cross ground heavily swept by machine gun fire. He set a fine example to all ranks.'
