Distinguished Conduct Medal 'Near Bellicourt, on 29 September, 1918, he was in command of a platoon employed on urgent road work, with the advancing infantry. By his initiative, good organization and skilful leadership he contributed largely to the success of the operations. When detailed to repair a portion of the road subjected to a very heavy barrage of high explosive and gas shells, he personally reconnoitred the position, and made dispositions to successfully accomplish his task. Throughout he behaved with great gallantry under fire.'
